Swedish botanist Carl Linnaeus, in his book Species Plantarum (1753), gave the cacao tree the scientific name Theobroma Cacao, which means "food of the gods.” We agree with the assessment of cacao as worthy of divine consideration, so a line of muffin mixes that lacks a chocolate option is simply unimaginable. Our Cacao Orange Spice muffin mix is inspired by the fruity, spicy, chocolate-y combination of flavors so common among the original, ancient peoples in Mexico that first cultivated cacao. We start with our base of finely ground almond flour and organic coconut flour, to which we add the cinnamon-y flavored mesquite flour, rich natural cacao, and hulled hemp hearts (for additional protein). Then we add a smidgeon of organic dried orange zest and a pinch of cayenne pepper to create a delectably flavored muffin that gives a slight hint of heat and fruitiness as it passes over the tongue. Don't be fooled by the decadent, abundant flavor of these muffins, they are full of clean, healthy ingredients: eat them anytime, any day, anywhere!
